| The ultimate aim of the course is to provide participants
with an understanding of the geological framework of the
business of exploration and mining. This allows participants
to combine their knowledge of the management and
financial status of junior to medium sized exploration
and mining companies to reduce risk and make better
informed assessments of the investment potential of these
companies. The course is designed particularly to assist
in the definition of the 10 percent of junior exploration
companies that have a real chance of significant discovery
by assessing their Geological Real Estate using an analogy
with housing real estate. Course notes will be provided that
can be used as a reference on the basic nomenclature of
geological process and rocks, the mineral deposit types of
all major commodities including normal tonnage and grade
data, various methodologies used in mineral exploration,
the geological assessment of companies and their press
releases, and the transition from exploration to mining. |

 Professor David Groves has spent over 30 years as a lecturer to professor at the University of Western Australia, the last 17 years as a Director of Research Centres in Economic Geology, the precursors to the current Centre for Exploration Targeting where he is now Emeritus Professor. During his academic career, David has co-authored over 500 publications and supervised over 200 PhD, MSc and BSc Honours students. He has been awarded several medals for his research and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. Since retirement, David has served on the Boards or acted as a Consultant to several junior exploration companies, using his geological experience of mineral deposits on all continents and the conceptual targeting methodologies he helped to develop. Throughout his career, he has perfected the art of presenting information at a level that is understandable and interesting to both geological and non-specialist audiences.
